Extra DVD to AVI Ripper is a DVD ripper for Windows. It can convert your DVD movies to the AVI format, using the MPEG-4 codec for video compression. The application has ten different conversion profiles, which vary in resolution and video bitrate, and, additionally, you can customize the settings as you wish.
Graphically, the ripper has a very standard user interface, with a big video player at the middle of the screen, the conversion profiles below it, and the conversion settings to its right. The video controls are at the very bottom of the application.
The way that this DVD ripper works is not the best one in my opinion. When you load a DVD movie, it will start playing automatically. A window appears asking you what part of the movie you want to convert. There are two options: from current point to the end and set values manually. It took me a few seconds to read these options, and the movie was already playing, so I didn't change the default setting and I went with "from current point to the end". What happened was that the application started recording a whole minute of the movie. And, to record, you have to have the video playing, which is slow and inefficient.
It works well and all, but I just don't like the approach chosen.
